What will be happening at FACT?

Why is FACT presenting this exhibition?

Climate for Change explores the topics of environment, food, housing and economy through participant engagement, networking and discussions. It supports FACT's 2009 theme, UNsustainable and starts FACT's journey and exploration of this crucial discussion.

Who is a FACT Contributor?

A FACT contributor is a group or individual that would like to utilise FACT's gallery space for meetings, events, discussions, workshops, presentations etc

What will the Gallery 1 space look like?

There are some basic sketches to the left that give an idea of how the space looks. All of the build in the gallery is made from leftovers from the 2008 Capital of Culture year - giving it an informal, recycled feeling. The grandstand seating will seat 20-30 and will be appropriate for lectures and screenings. The tables will be suitable for hands-on workshops, where we provide 12 stools. Proper chairs in larger numbers may be available on request - please note on your booking form.

How do I find out what's on?

We'd love you to keep in touch. Be a part of the FACT family!

You can find out what is happening in Gallery 1 on our Gallery 1 calendar of events. But you can also join us by viewing our website (www.fact.co.uk), visiting our cultural centre at 88 Wood Street, joining our Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=5461807462) and (MySpace http://www.myspace.com/facttv) groups, following us on Twitter (http://twitter.com/fact_liverpool), reading our blog (http://blog.fact.co.uk) and signing up for our monthly enewsletter.

What kit will be in the space for my group to use?

There will be a PA and projector with a screen on the south wall. These will be hooked up to DVD and CD players, 2 microphones in the space and a Mac (with internet access and some basic software including Microsoft Office). You'll also be able to hook your own equipment up via a VGA cable and headphone jack. Please remember to bring any adaptors you may need to interface to a standard VGA cable and headphone (aka mini) jack!

What technical assistance is available?

Very limited-to-none. The kit and Gallery 1 is essentially set up as it would be for a dry hire - there is no technician on duty to help your group - but the Gallery Assistants will be able to provide some very basic direction/instruction and ensure our kit is working. Any specific technical requirements should be communicated as early as possible on your booking form to see if it can be accommodated but with so many groups using the space, we likely won't be able to accommodate outside technical requests. We do need to emphasize that you should be comfortable and confident using the technology you will be working with, and need to be clear that there will be no technician on duty to help you. We've set up the resources we have in the most easy-to-use way as possible, so hopefully you won't have too many problems!

How do I get involved and Who do I contact about holding an event/ workshop/ screening in Gallery 1?

Detailed booking information is on our Gallery 1 booking procedures page.

What support will FACT provide and what resources will be available?

FACT is essentially offering the gallery space in a dry hire capacity allowing FACT Contributors to facilitate their own events within the space. Contributors will have use of the PA/ Projector/ Screen and workshop/ presentation areas. FACT will also help promote your event (please see 'How will my event be promoted ?' for details)

What about tea, coffee and refreshments?

Tea or coffee is available to purchase nearby from our Cafe, and large groups can book in tea/coffee on our catering form - please do this well in advance of your event. However, FACT contributors are also able to bring their own refreshments for their events - although we do ask that you tidy the space after use for others who have booked the gallery, and unfortunately we can't provide a kettle (for health and safety reasons).

Only alcohol purchased on FACT premises from the cafe or bar may be taken into the gallery and you MUST notify us in advance via the booking form if you intend to be drinking alcohol. Events that haven't flagged this up in advance will not be allowed to drink alcohol.

All food and drink should ideally be taken in to the space in paper or plastic containers - FACT have the right to refuse glass containers for health and safety reasons.

What can we do in the Gallery and what can we not do?

FACT does ask that contributors are aware of sound levels in the public gallery spaces. Your event should not be loud, use strobes, or endanger the Health & Safety of others. FACT reserves the right to turn your event down – your event will be reviewed in advance as to its suitability for the exhibition. FACT will not tolerate abusive or discriminatory behaviour or language within the building.

What is the Gallery etiquette?

FACT asks that contributors tidy up after their events, have consideration of the noise level, are aware that Gallery 1 is a shared space open to the public, and that contributors be aware of other groups who may be present in the gallery at the same time.

Groups of young people under 18 should be accompanied by appropriate adults.

Who is responsible for safety?

FACT will retain overall responsibility for Health and Safety for anything happening in its galleries and as such any activities should be subject to a Risk Assessment (part of which involves filling out the booking form, which FACT will follow up on if necessary). However, we do emphasise that contributors must act responsibly in the space and be responsible for their own group's safety. All visitors should respect the safety and security of others and FACT have the final say over what is deemed to be safe and appropriate behaviour.

If the emergency alarm sounds, the gallery must be evacuated immediately - visitors should assemble in Ropewalks Square

What is a risk assessment and how do I complete one?

A Risk Assessment is a legal Health and Safety document that determines the levels of risk that any activity may incur and details the steps taken to minimise that risk. We've incorporated a Risk Assessment into our booking form, available from our Gallery 1 booking procedures page. It lets us know of some of the basic activities that you may wish to do in the Gallery and may be useful for reference.

What equipment and resources can I bring to the Gallery?

You can bring your own computer or AV equipment to link up to the projector and PA via VGA and headphone jack - if your equipment uses a different output, be sure to bring the right adaptors.

Any other equipment should be specified on your booking form so we can advise you if we don't think it will be suitable for our set up.

How will my event be promoted?

FACT is promoting the Climate for Change exhibition and its various elements. As a FACT Contributor, you will be included in an overall list publicised in our building signage, news bulletins and online.

There will be a resource area within FACT for you to leave your publicity materials from 13 March - 31 May. If you are interested in participating, please leave your materials at the FACT Information Desk. Please limit printed items to 50. There will also be a Community Notice Board located in the FACT Cafe that you are able post information on.

We encourage you to promote your specific event through your own networks and appreciate if you use the following line to explain your involvement in Climate for Change:

“This event (name of your event) is contributing to the Climate for Change exhibition at FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology). Climate for Change is a unique experiment in activism, engagement and networking taking place from 13 March - 31 May. FACT is located at 88 Wood Street L1 4DQ. www.fact.co.uk.
